Fungus treatment question: by using over the counter treatments will I create more resistant fungus?

M asked:

I have successfully treated my own fungus skin infections, or so I thought, with over the counter medications, but it always came back a while later.

Just now I read that I should treat it with over the counter product till it’s gone and then treat it once a week for two years and it won’t come back. Is this good advice or will there be bad results?

One of my fish has a fungus disease on him(cotton looking)

The medicine didn’t say anything about waterchanges other than at the very end of the medication usage. I was wondering if I do any small water changes during the treatment at all(since I have to remove the filter for a week or so)
